Keyhole sunglasses are looking to make a comeback this spring. Not only have top designers including Tom Ford and Garrett Leight already released several keyhole sunglasses deigns and styles in time for spring, but manufacturers of less expensive eye wear have reportedly been gearing up for their own lines of keyhole sunglasses. According to GQ, keyhole sunglasses are going to help define the style of this year's spring.
But the variety of designer brand keyhole sunglasses, at least for now, seems no more diverse than the variety of men’s wedding bands you'll see at your local department store. From the drab matte look of Warby Parker's version to the tortoise shell style of Bottega Veneta's, nothing particularly stands out with even the slightest hint of deviation. It's brown, black, a combination of both, or going home without a new pair of sunglasses. Is this a sign of things to come as far as spring fashion is concerned?
We've discussed on this site before the likelihood of conservative style reigning supreme so long as the economy is still sputtering. Since it doesn't appear that the global economic system is going to be improving anytime soon, it's safe to say that if this theory regarding fashion is correct, then this spring will be no exception. As we approach spring, it's worth it to pay attention to possible bellwethers in the form of accessories.
Keyhole sunglasses are without a doubt one of the more conservative throwbacks designers could have chosen to bring back to life. Their wide rounded lenses and dense frames make them look like a grown-up version of Wayfarers when combined with the signature keyhole nose bridge. Indeed, it's almost as though those who were sporting Wayfarers two years ago will be wearing Keyholes this year, which lends credence to the idea that they bring about a look of maturity.
But does this signal an overall move for mens fashion to be a little more no-nonsense despite the springtime call for a return to the more radically constructed pieces in your wardrobe? Only time will tell, but it doesn't hurt to take a look at some keyholes now if you don't own a pair in order to get some ideas for what would look good to wear with them. Your results will lead to the right answer.
