Bugatti Makes a Car for the Ages

Bgs001

A topless version of the world's fastest production car? We're in. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport ($2.25 million) keeps the coupe's 1001 hp, 16-cylinder engine, and has been developed so there will be no draft inside, even when exploring the upper reaches of the car's 217 mph top speed. While the company will reportedly build just 80 Grand Sports, you should keep on mind that there is no other car like this one out-there. It really does not get better than this...

Chanel Fiole - Concept Car Design

Chanelcar

Jinyoung Jo is a car designer at Hong-ik University in South Korea, and this is her creation: the Chanel Fiole concept. As with classic Coco Chanel work, the design of the car was centered on simplicity of lines and “the best of black and white.” As with most concepts, there was also an emphasis on airflow. The car seats three, two abreast and one staggered in between — but it’s probably best considered a sleek two-seater for runway types.

Mini John Cooper Works, 2009

Minicjc

Mini keeps innovating. One year it's the Clubman, the uber-cool “storm” door model. The next time around it's the John Cooper Works model named after the deceased famous racing car guru who with his father founded the Cooper Car Company in the 1946.

Available in the hardtop, convertible and Clubman models, the 2009 John Cooper Works further advances the Mini, now owned and marketed by BMW. It's compact driving machine features a 208-horsepower, turbocharged engine and six-speed manual transmission with larger, now standard 17-inch wheels.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV

Lamborghini

I almost had an h*** on when I saw this first image of Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV, just a day ahead of the reveal tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show.

"The new Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is the systematic continuation of our brand philosophy. It is more extreme and uncompromising than virtually any other automobile," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "As the new top model of the highly successful Murciélago range, the SuperVeloce displays not only outstanding driving dynamics, it is also further evidence of our company's technological expertise. Customers can look forward to an utterly unparalleled driving experience."

Ferrari 599XX, 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE

Ferrari599HGTE
Geneva International Motor Show provides the venue for Ferrari to announce two new pieces of good news: the arrival of the sporty, dynamic Handling GT Evoluzione (HGTE) Package for the 599 GTB Fiorano and the world debut of the 599XX which is a technological laboratory aimed at a select group of clients. The latter new car incorporates the most advanced technologies resulting from Ferrari's road-going and F1 research. Many of the technological solutions it carries are being used for the first time and have been developed exclusively for this special car. I feel like having some red soon :-)

Toyota to Launch Solar-Powered Prius that can Park Itself

Priussolartop002

New Prius will feature a hybrid electric-petrol engine and automatic self-parking, and it will soon get solar panels on the roof to power its air-conditioning system.

That last bit might not sound too exciting, but it has potential. Automotive air-con systems are usually powered by your car's engine, which has to work harder to keep the car moving, and its occupants cool. By using a solar panel and electric motor combo, Toyota is able to use the power of the sun against itself, save petrol, and reduce CO2 emissions.

We'll have to wait until 2009 to see whether Toyota's implementation makes a real difference.
