As I peruse the preview pictures of the latest issue of Vman, I can't help but wonder "where are all the male models of color?" Italian Vogue for women along with the photographer Steven Misel just released the Black Issue using all black female models. It appears we have the same issue in men's fashion.

Yeah, Coleman, I agree. One will see a sprinkling of male models of colour in US and UK publications, but not much from anywhere else in the West it seems.

I am a model in Europe and work in the fashion business in Greece. There is a reason why black and other darker models don't work as much anymore. It has to do with the taming of high fashion and how everone has everything nowadays. No exclusiveness anymore. The fashion industry has put blame on many things, but hiphop has taken the biggest. It is percieved that if you use a black model your line will portray a more urban/hiphop style. For example, Ralph Lauren is trying really hard to get his line back into the 80's prep look and non-white models are not in the picture. I am Greek and Monacoan, but have african ancestory and even though it is way way back, my agent still tells me to keep it quite and not let anyone know. These are the times in fashion today.
