"Designer Imposters" explores the growing communication and ever-growing relationship between the worlds of high fashion and the mass market, and is a collaboration between Artist Bobby Collins and Yoko Devereaux.
"The marriage of fashion and mass market brands is redefining the way we define 'what is fashion is and is not'. With designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Todd Oldham, Isaac Mizrahi and others, it's really questionable if these items are fashion or simply a new and improved way to cash out on a celebrity type name," says Andy Salzer, Creative Director of Yoko Devereaux. "I wish I was convinced that these relationships are simply redefining fashion in ways we have yet to fully realize, however, it's definitely a dual edged sword. On the one hand, I come from a generation of Gap that has had almost a McDonald's like affect on the industry - accessible fashion has revolutionized the industry. But on the flip side, consumers are being led to think that talented designers are actually hands-on in the creation of these products for these mass market chain stores, which isn't necessarily the case at all."
